The Preliminary Examination is the initial screening test usually consisting of two objective type papers covering all the relevant topics of the exam’s syllabus to test the candidates knowledge about General awareness, aptitude and analytical skills.
The paper-I comprises general studies multiple choice questions carrying 200 marks with 100 number of questions. The duration for the test is two hours and also includes 33% negative marking.

Paper VI and VII has optional subjects questions chosen by candidates with the weightage of 250 makes in three hours. Candidates are required to choose only two subjects from the list.
